Working with BMW Motorrad is a wonderful opportunity and one which I believe will be very successful. We're very excited about working with the S 1000 RR having seen what it's capable of. And we're bringing our title sponsor, Buildbase along, who are long-time supporters of motor racing and BSB in particular. We've put together a team of very talented riders and, with them onboard the S 1000 RR, which is a proven championship winner, we're looking forward to a fantastic 2011.

Team Profile

The Hawk Racing team is managed by Stuart Hicken, who after retiring from competitive racing worked on Grand Prix bikes for a decade before switching to team management, forming his own team in 1996 to compete in the British Supersport Championship.

It wasn't until 1998 that the team moved into the British Superbike Championship with Phil Giles and immediately racked up the results, winning the Cup championship in their debut season. In 1999 Giles retuned to defend his title, but had to settle for the runner-up spot.

The team ran in the Cup Championship for four seasons before moving into the main Championship after securing Glen Richards for their 2002 campaign. Richards was consistent throughout the season; with a sweep of top ten finishes and a best result of fourth in the two races at Donington Park, he gave the team an eighth place finish in the overall standings.

Richards remained with the team for 2003 and with a year behind him, the results continued to improve. At the Silverstone opening round Richards was eager to show what the team could do and he did just that, taking two third places to put the team on the podium. That season Richards regularly mixed it at the front of the field, and with several visits to the podium he was able to elevate the team to fourth in the standings. Meanwhile Scott Smart joined the team and with several consistent performances was able to give the team another top ten finish by the end of the season.

For 2004 both Richards and Smart were back in the green garage and Smart gave the team their maiden BSB race win at Mondello Park in a nail-biting race with John Reynolds. It wasn't going to end there though and Smart followed it up with another win at Knockhill and Mallory Park, rewarding the team with fourth in the overall standings. Richards meanwhile ended the season in tenth.

The team were back for the 2005 season with Richards and Dean Thomas who both gave the team a pair of top eight finishes. In 2007 the team expanded to field David Hallett in the National Superstock Cup in addition to three bikes in BSB with Smart, Peter Hickman and James Haydon.

In 2008 the team fielded Smart in BSB, ending the season in 15th place and the best result of the season coming at Oulton Park with an eighth place.

The Hawk Kawasaki team moved into the 2009 season with the backing of new sponsors Buildbase and reigning BSB Cup champion John Laverty teaming up with Tristan Palmer. Laverty had a consistent season, giving the team a front row qualifying start at Cadwell Park and a best result of fourth place at Mallory Park.

Laverty remained with the team for a second consecutive and was joined by Adam Jenkinson for 2010. Laverty secured a podium for the team and just missed out on being a Title Fighter in the Showdown, whilst Jenkinson endured a challenging season.

Laverty returns for a third season with Stuart Hicken's team who will be powered by BMW machinery and is joined by Barry Burrell who moves to the Evo class after a promising year in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship. Richard Cooper remains in the Superstock class as BMW aim for a second consecutive championship title.
