Mackenzie extends his lead with opening Brands Dickies Supersport win!

Reigning champion Tarran Mackenzie extended his lead at the top of the Dickies British Supersport standings with a lights to flag victory in the first of three races at Brands Hatch Indy. The McAMS Yamaha rider launched off pole position to lead at the end of the opening lap, a position in which he would remain. The number one plate holder did not have an easy time of it however, as Andrew Irwin pushed him close throughout the 18 laps, running just a tenth behind the Yamaha the whole time in a tense game of cat and mouse.

With the two at the front able to break away from the pursuing pack, it was the Spirit machine of Alastair Seeley who ran third for the opening lap but the Team Appleyard Macadam Racing Yamaha of Keith Farmer slid through on lap two. Farmer was able to fend off a late challenge from Donington podium star Ben Currie to claim his first podium of the season.

Seeley crossed the line fifth, ahead of David Allingham and Joe Francis. It was a difficult race for the GAC Logistics MV Agusta team as Jack Kennedy retired on lap 11. Tom Ward proved the best of the rookie riders, claiming 12th place at the flag.

The second of the three Dickies British Supersport Championship races will go later today at 15.40 and it is Irwin who starts from pole ahead of Mackenzie and Farmer.
